Syrupy (AKA GhostNinjaX) Posted December 18, 2013 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Ok so i want to install this graphics card (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4805059&CatId=7387) to my gateway dx4831-01e, but i dont have a clue if it will work without overheating. I know i will have to upgrade the 300w power supply, and i might need a case fan i don't think it came with one. I know this is not the best Pc but i want a cheap and easy alternative to buying a gaming Pc XD. Can you help me plz? I know a MSI Geforce GTX 660 will not fit, because that big cpu fan/cooler is taking up all the room. It looks like it is almost covering the pci express slot now. If your current processor and motherboard are 1156 (http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i3-530-Processor-Socket-LGA1156/dp/B0030DN1GO) ^^ what the specs of the pc you listed has in it. Then the mobo is an 1156. The cpu you want to put in it http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2983971&sku=I69-3470 is 1155 and will not work with your current mobo. Tiger direct and newegg both do not carry them anymore. Your best bet will be amazon or ebay. I would advise dealing with your current situation until you can purchase an entire build. I do not trust oem boards for anything. Save some cash and you will be much happier. Also most i 5s that are 1156 socket will be dual cores and offer a small performance gain. If you want to just get a few more fps just grab the psu and gpu. Or perhaps one of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130827 But like I said before. Get the psu and that, but i would still just save more cash for a rebuild.Well i really don't want to build a new computer, i want to get atleast 50-60 fps on DayZ and be able to play most graphic demanding games i want to put the highest graphics card i can put in without a motherboard upgrade. I don't mind upgrading the psu and maybe the ram. So what do u think the max graphics card i could put in my pc would be? As long as you have the slot for it you can throw whatever you want in there with the proper psu. Assuming whatever card you purchase will fit in the case. Your main issue is going to be a bottleneck. Your cpu is a dual core with relatively low clock speed. This means if you throw anything bigger then what i linked in there it is going to bottle neck. Aka it will not get the fps you want because the cpu is lagging behind the gpu. Shit the 660 i linked is porbably going to cause a bottle neck. I havent played the new day/z standalone but i doubt you will be able to max it out with that cpu. You can get a quad core 1156 socket for over 220 bucks on amazon. That is for a 3 gen old cpu, that may not be able to cool. Anyways this plus a gpu that can run games (the one you linked above will max out minecraft if your lucky) and a psu plus the cost of added cooling will put you at about 500 bucks.
