DevilDogNate
So I'm planning this build when I get back to the states but I'm not entirely sure if it all work together or if I should wait on a new AMD motherboard with upgraded PCI-e slots. Here's the build ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131876 2x ASUS Radeon R9 290X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121819 AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284 G.SKILL Ripjaws Z series 16GB (4 x 4GB) SDRAM DDR3 2400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231505 I have a 1000w power supply right now but I'm not sure if I need to go up to a 1300 or not. I'll be installing custom water cooling to the two GPU's and to the CPU possibly on two separate pumps and two separate radiators. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Nate
Methland
The only issues I see atm is your motherboard doesn't have PCI Express 3.0 for your graphics card and the other issue is the CPU is way too close to the ram, if you plan to use the cooling fans with the ram, its going to be a ballzy fit. I wish I could call you and tell you this is a terrible mistake with the motherboard, I hope you haven't bought it and if you have, don't open it, send it back ASAP. The motherboard will not work with your graphics card. The motherboard has 4 PCIe 2.0 slots but your graphic cards need PCIe 3.0. Please watch out and be more careful. Besides, your All sorts of wrong..... A quick google search before posting would help you. http://linustechtips...0-motherboards/ He just has to use an xfire bridge. 3.0 allows no bridge to run dual cards. PCIe 2.0 works with 3.0. 3.0 works with 2.0 There is a slight (1-2 fps) difference from running 3.0, but this is not noticeable if hes buying 290s. Also currently no am3+ boards have 3.0..... Asus had a sabertooth which had it but it was pulled from the market because the 3.0 slots caused the system to hang. Your ram is a serious overkill and the fans are stupid and not ever necessary. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231568 Grab those. You also will not have an issue with clearance. And if you do you bought an older revision noc d14. Newer ones hare taller then most ram. Phantecs did this right. Everything else here is fine assuming the psu is not a cheap brand. 1000 watts should be enough. Edited January 7, 2014 by BranHorse
Bunjee
For future reference i would suggest using this website to put together parts that you want to buy http://pcpartpicker.com/ it checks all of the components you pick to make sure they are compatible with each other. Now for your parts, first off unless you plan on doing 3D Modeling or any kind of heavy resource graphics designing, you wont need 16GB of Ram. 12 or even 8 is perfectly fine for gaming. but like methland said for your motherboard, maybe try to find one that has better placement of slots. Having the Ram so close to the cpu like that will only cause you problems. You could easily find one with the right specs and better arrangement. Also if you dont already have a case, you should try to find one that has the Fan coming out from the top, works real well for keeping your PC cool without having alot of fans inside. 1000W will be more than enough. Maybe state the brand your power supply is though. Last thing you want is to buy something like Diablotek which will just fry and be a total waste of money. Otherwise, great choice for graphics cards + processor. I myself am a big fan of AMD products especially the FX series for processors. Methland
i have looked at charts and theres about a 9% drop on graphic cards in a PCIe 2.0 when playing Skyrim
BranHorse
i have looked at charts and theres about a 9% drop on graphic cards in a PCIe 2.0 when playing Skyrim http://www.pugetsyst...erformance-518/ http://www.anandtech...cie-2-vs-pcie-3 Also lets not forget that he is doing an amd build...As I stated previously, there used to be ONE am3+ mobo with pcie 3.0....but it is has been discontinued and replaced with this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131877 which has 2.0... So maybe even the motherboard manufacturers realize there is no gain. I wish enigma would come back. Cave Johnson
If you want the speed of the 8350, why not just go with the 8320. They are basically the same processor just a lower clock speed. Any performance board you pick up you can easily overclock on simply by turning up the multiplier on the CPU and even easier if the motherboard comes with UEFI Bios. Your ram is serious overkill, you can step down the speed significantly and never notice the difference. The R9 290x series graphics cards are serious machines. One of them can power up to 3-4 monitors running above 1080p and a good game np. Why you would need two of them is beyond me but hey, its your money. If you are running serious graphics, and money isn't a issue, Id consider water cooling your machine. Not for the sake of sound, although sometimes it is quieter than having a bunch of fans revved all the way up, but for performance sake. Remember, keeping your gear cool is entirely pertinent to performance. Edit: Also I highly recommend one of these two http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128508 [first choice] or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130649 Edited January 9, 2014 by A L P H A
