Cave Johnson
So according to valve forums and some tid bits from the devs the MMR system looks like this. If your score is 2250, your score is higher than or equal to 50% of the player-base. If you're 4100, your score is higher than or equal to 99% of the player-base. 10% - 1500 25% - 2000 50% - 2250 75% - 2731 90% - 3200 95% - 3900 99% - 4100 These rankings are partially given based off previous stats validated through your MMR placement matches. Cave Johnson
could you please provide sources for things like this? http://nf.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1svw0e/what_is_the_average_mmr/ a good amount of info came from here, rest is spread across multiple websites. Vetman
The original source is here: http://blog.dota2.com/2013/12/matchmaking/ That was valve's estimations/projections for how it was going to work
Hung
Those numbers are for unranked MMR, and are not accurate for ranked. Valve said it would change in ranked. Honestly, I have not seen anyone under 2500 in ranked in game (on PD forums say a 1400 ranked player), and it would make sense that many of those people would not play ranked matches If you were to play only bot matched until level 13, then went 5-5 in calibration you would have 3k MMR (you start at 3k unranked mmr). I dont have a good source for this but i remember when you could check unranked mmr in the console i made a new account and it was 3k with no games. Nickorama
The higher your MMR, the better, you have the percentiles mixed around 4100 would have a lower percentile, and 2250 would have a higher percentile. The lower percentile, the more "pro" you are according to valve.
DarkMonotone
Pretty sure half the people I know are 4,100+ rating. Either the system is actually jacked up, or I just happen to know a ton of top 1% players.
Hung
There are millions of players who you would never come across. Milliions with no stats recorded enabled, and millions who never touched rmm. It is simply the bracket you play in, and the tendency to only friend and play with people who you come across in your bracket. Also the self selection of people who join clans, stack up and play regularly with the same people cause them to tend to be higher mmr

My MMR is the result of very bad decision making not IN game but before the game actually starts. I did all my calibration games in a stack of 2 only leading us into bad to non existent communication with unknown teammates. From then I just didn't touch RMM, and I won't without a 5 men stack with mic.
