aLLeN^
Reporting Tony Aiello NEW YORK (CBS) ― Flowers sit under the tree where a Bronx father was crushed to death by his 13-year-old son while being given a driving lesson in a Porsche SUV on August 18, 2009. A Bronx family is in mourning after a terrible accident: a 13-year-old getting a driving lesson accidentally runs down and kills his own father. A vase of flowers, a candle, and an ugly scar on a tree all mark the spot of Tuesday night's tragic accident in Throggs Neck. "A young kid like that driving and killing his father like that – I had tears in my eyes. It was devastating," said Al Crue, who witnessed the immediate aftermath of the bizarre incident – a 13-year-old learning to drive a luxury Porsche SUV and killing his father, identified as 45-year-old John Cedeno. Cedeno was with his son on East Tremont, with the driver's side door open - and the elder Cedeno supervising his son behind the wheel. As the boy put the SUV into reverse, the vehicle roared backwards onto the sidewalk, and the open door crushed Cedeno against a tree, killing him. Pedro Torres saw the young driver moments after the accident. "He was going crazy - around - walking back and forth," he said. It happened as the boy and his parents left a family dinner at the Latin Kitchen restaurant. "I can't even imagine, our thoughts and prayers are with that family. They have to deal with this tragedy, and the emotional trauma that this child is gonna go through for the rest of his life," said Robert Vicente, a spokesman for the restaurant. Clinical psychologist Dr. Jeffrey Gardere told CBS 2 the boy will suffer tremendous guilt. "He's going to hold himself responsible, no matter how many people tell him that it's not his fault, he's going to carry this with him for the rest of his life," he said. "What we need to focus on with him is getting him some help, mental health help." In the meantime, at the Cedeno home in Morris Park, friends gathered to grieve and provide comfort to a family facing almost unimaginable circumstances. The NYPD said the boy will not face charges. http://wcbstv.com/local/boy.crushes....2.1135612.html FHS
