Im not really going into to detail but, the zombie spawn at the beginning of the game has been messed up for a while. for starters, It freezes all the time. and ive noticed many players such as myself over and over again get Zombified at the beginning of the game, while being way away from zombie spawn. just now on enervation. i was in the back corner by the train and human spawn. with 60+ humans and i get turned. with many others who rage quit. our names where not on the list. i know how to not get turned at the beginning but it randomly selects people, instead of making the closest players to z spawn, ZOMBIES.

its also annoying when it happens 3 or 4 games in a row and each time you are as far as you can get from Z spawn.

you wanna fix some rage quits. fix that first. itll be a big help. and if for some reason it cant be fixed then fix the message so it says "Players get randomly chosen to be Zombies" instead of "Players closest to zombies spawn will become zombies"

Actually, the system its random.

It actually does matter, here is the check list the system does to determine if you will be picked as a starting zombie:

  1. Did you set yourself to always be a zombie volunteer (can be changed on the in-game settings menu)

  2. Are you AFK (If you haven't moved your mouse/character/ect. recently you will be flagged as AFK)

  3. The distance you are from the closest zombie spawn point relative to the rest of the players (there may be more than one on a map and the closest players will be selected as zombies)

The fact that the list of volunteers at the bottom of your screen isn't always accurate may depend on the power/ability of your PC to render frames in a timely manner or process the player information.

In any event the only aspect of this that is random is in the unlikely event that you are exactly the same distance away from zombie spawn(s) as someone else.
