House Of Cards

The Narrator

I watched the first two or three episodes of House of Cards, mainly lured in by Kevin Spacey acting and David Fincher directing. So far, I'm not all that impressed. Fincher has a way of creating psychologically off, yet charismatic characters come to life on-screen. I don't really see much of the charisma in Spacey's character. I do enjoy the sarcastic humor and occasional to-camera narration that occurs, but there doesn't seem to be much "beef," per se. Frank and his wife are hard to sympathize with, mainly because they're cold sociopaths.

I'm not saying that doesn't make an entertaining character, but an entire series is different from a movie. There's not that much involvement required for simply an hour or two hour-long film. A series is more of a commitment, and, at least for me, I have to be able to sympathize with the protagonist on some level to continue watching. Fincher may have been able to get away with emotionless main characters on the big screen, but in terms of an entire series, I'm not really connected enough to anyone that would give me any motivation to continue watching. If anyone on here watches House of Cards, tell me if there's any real substance or some sort of big event that makes the whole ordeal "worth the wait."
