By connecting and reconnecting and saying to remute him but i just banned him.

He told you ahead of time he was going to disconnect and told you the consequences of that and what you must do when he reconnected.

In any case, make sure to tell him he need to provide a reason for the disconnect, but this was not necessarily avoiding a mute.
