Andrew Wilson HG Member   I have consulted a group of friends who know the HG environment much better than I do. I have aspergers and misunderstood a lot of what people were saying. I am extremely opposed to extremist behavior, and I lashed out at people for it. However, upon speaking to my group of friends, I began to understand that the reason people were making more and more offensive remarks was that I reacted to them and it prompted them to keep making more of the same jokes to mess with me. | My goal when I began reporting these individuals and speaking to staff was that I did not want racist behavior to be tolerated. However, I had no idea it was all a joke and felt as if these behaviors were simply being accepted in the community. I later learned that a lot of the people in the community actually liked me, and that there wasn't a large group of people that hated me. My behavior was erratic by the perspective of those who were cracking jokes to be edgy, and I wish I understood that sooner before continuing on and creating a fuss over what they were saying. Currently, I am working with the aforementioned group of friends to continue to understand the differences between genuine hateful behavior and a joke. I learned that if I do not create a reason for people to troll me that they will give up on making certain edgy jokes. During my conversations with them I understood why everything happened and I began to realize that the people I felt were bigots were indeed just regular players trying to have fun. I would like to apologize to the people I hurt and continue to understand their perspective. From now on, I will be consulting my friends on matters that trouble me before I make a big deal out of something. I will heed their advice and they can be able to tell me what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong. Hell's Gamers has been an important community to me since 2015, and I have donated for many months to be a gold member, as well as become an HG member to deepen my ties with the community. With all this advice and information I hope to join back into the community and become someone that others appreciate having with them. I hope to learn from my mistakes and become a part of the community once again. |
