Buxtonaters
I might build a new pc soon and I was wondering what are your guys opinions on the r9 380.
Isaac
pay the extra cash and roll with nvidia, you hear the battles on which is better nvidia or amd. I owned cards from them both before. You will get a better experience when it comes to updating drivers and more new up to date drivers as well . But for the r9 380 is not bad but get a 970 my opinion. ASCII
I run several R9 280x's they are awesome cards. I would suggest looking into an r9 290 as they will be similarly priced to a R9 380 but with much more performance.
porkcow
If a r9 380 is all you can fit in your budget it is not a terrible card. Infact the 380 is a 285 rebrand pretty much, they both use the same Tonga chip. A 285 has been shown to beat a 3gb 280x in some games and that's with just 2gb of vram. Just go with a 4gb version of the 380 and you will be good, they go for maybe like $15-$30 extra over the regular 2gb cards.
