New Item (Tool): Repair Bots

yes, that's a Manhack...

 

 

Repair Bot(s) is an item that is purchasable from the Arsenal Crate that falls under the Tools tab.

 

 

Cost

Cost is still under consideration but for now, a cost of 60 points (48 with the Intermission discount) per bot seems reasonable.

 

 

Function

It automatically searches for damaged props within a short vicinity of 5 ZS meters (idk how many Hammer Units that is) and repair them slowly. The reparation rate would be at 2 hit point per second per bot. A full 15 minutes of non-stop repairing would yield a total of 1800 repair points or 60 points for the owner.

 

The reparation mechanic is identical to the hammer repair system, where these bots cannot repair a prop that has 0 repair (red) points left.

 

 

Behavior

Once purchased, the Repair Bot(s) will automatically follow whoever purchased it around. When the owner of the Repair Bot(s) died or left the server, the Repair Bot(s) would go in an indefinite stupor where other humans can press E on them to claim them. You may resell Repair Bots, but just like other purchases, it's final on Wave 6.

 

If the owner stray further than 5 meters from a prop that is currently under reparation from the Repair Bot(s), the Repair Bot(s) would immediately stop repairing and return to its owner and try to find and repair another damaged prop within the new vicinity of the owner.

 

Repair Bots have no collision with any other objects (they are in full noclip mode) to make it easier for humans who purchased them and prevent stupid things like it being stuck on doors, props, walls or ceilings. Therefore, they are immune to all zombie attacks and propkills.

 

 

 

Limitations

There will be a limit of 10 Repair Bots in stock for a whole map round similar to the Turret and Aegis Kit restrictions.

 

 

 

Why?

By investing in these flying cuties, one can skip the dull task of holding down LMB with their hammer out in a cade that is under attack. They can focus more on healing, shooting, constantly re-position their Resupply Boxes for those with OCDs or alt tabbing and watching porn or Netflix.

 

Even Billy Mays would recommend these bots for those lazy assholes who seek more thrill in Zombie Survival without worrying about cade integrity.

 

They also serve well in semi-shitcades (is it a proper term?), where sometimes you can't repair a prop that is a part of a cade because it's too far forward in the bulk or repairing "spikes" (who da hell coined that term) that serve to slow zombies down before reaching the cade itself.

 

Elitist solo caders would also LOVE THESE THINGS, they can buy Grim, 10 repair bots and then proceed to solo 1 vs 62 when the zombies overran the "main cade".

 

Assuming a 48 point purchase with the 20% discount, it would take 12 minutes of non-stop repairing for the Repair Bot to break even.

 

Final Words

That is a nice and well done idea, since Manhacks are mainly reconnaissance Bots on other Servers and have no purpose except of damaging zombies for at least 15 hp, this could be a nice feature of the Server. I don't know if its hard to code anything like that but that is brilliant.

 

Lets say we have 10 Humans in a Cade that is about to get fu**** in the arse from 60 Zombies, 4 of them Repairing while the rest is trying to defend it. If you get 5-10 Repair Bots, it level out's the outcome from 2-4 (or more) normal Humans with Hammers repairing the cade.

 

I really like this idea and i hope everyone who reads this Suggestion is on the same way as i am.

I love the concept and have wanted to implement them for a while. Unfortunately AI isn't that straight forward to program, it's not quite as simple as hover here and move there commands. Additionally the logic for the AI is processed every tick which adds stress to server. I'll check with forest and see if he wants to devote some time to it, but that will likely halt development elsewhere.

I'll check with forest and see if he wants to devote some time to it, but that will likely halt development elsewhere.

 

A simpler alternative would be to have a repair bot repairs ALL DAMAGED PROPS in a vicinity but at a much slower pace or at a much higher cost. I think this is simpler to code and does not require AI coding.

 

 

This is a pretty dope idea, It would have to have very low hitpoints as well as a balance too.

I do believe they should be attack-able too. However, to prevent stupid things where they can get stuck in between props, walls, ceilings, doorways and what not, they would have to be in full noclip mode. I am not sure if zombies can hit something that is in full noclip. Humans noblock is there for ZS, I'm not sure if there's a prop noblock feature in ZS.

I dont know much about lua, but you could try just disable the AI, make the manhack float their and attach a script that repairs the lowest HP item within a certain radius of the manhack.

I fear that if you try to make it an actual AI that moves around it's going to to get stuck trying to get to things.
