A majority of the people do not want this. That is the problem. He said screw the majority and went with what the minority wanted. This country so everyone knows is a republic, NOT a Democracy. I see a second civil war coming at this rate.Tell Canada to lock up it's borders so nothing spills over!

It's total control over everything by the Government ( according to the U.S. version currently being played out ) instead of advocating personal responsibility. The Government ( HERE ) has basically by passed the people and it's voice and told us that they know what is best for us and will now dictate what we have to have and can have and we should just fallow and shut up.

I think it is a matter of just having the government insinuating itself more into our lives that we don't like.

This draws more of an idea of socialism then capitalism. The government thinking it knows what is best for me. The idea is unappealing to me.

I want to see smaller government, less taxes, and school vouchers.

This health care reform goes against two of the three wants of mine.

The idea that this will cut the deficit is laughable. And if you are not "poor", the government will "fine" you if you don't buy into their system.

I work for AT&T. The insurance plan that we have is considered a "cadillac" plan. Therefore I am penalized with my insurance company having their taxes raised and handing this off to me in the form of higher premiums, deductibles and such.

How long do you think my company will keep us on any sort of health care plan if they know they can shove us off onto the government dole?

This is going to be a private insurance carrier killer. Resulting in higher unemployment.

The evil rich man will not be hurt as much as the middle and lower class worker. Everything that hits the upper class will be passed onto us. Trickle-down works with the bad and the good.

That ends my rant.

Good, valid points. I won't argue against them.

I am just tired of the socialism term being tossed around. I wrote a narrative this morning about it.

My narrative if police and fire departments weren't social programs:

Conversation between a 911 operator and Joe, a home owner without homeowner's insurance.

[911 operator] 911, what is the emergency?

[Joe] My house is on fire!

[911 operator] Who is your current homeowner's insurance provider?

[Joe] I don't have one. I was unable to afford it.

[911 operator] You will need to call your local emergency fire department.

Please note that your current wait time may be more than 4 hours, as the cases are treated on a severity of fire basis.

Conversation between a 911 operator and Michelle, a home owner with homeowner's insurance, but whose house was set on fire by an arsonist.

[911 operator] 911, what is the emergency?

[Michelle] Someone set my house on fire!

[911 operator] Who is your current homeowner's insurance provider?

[Michelle] ******** Insurance company. Please hurry!

[911 operator] We're sorry, it appears that there was a pre-existing wiring issue in your house. We will not cover a visit. If you would like, I can connect you with your local emergency fire department. Please note that your current wait time may be more than 4 hours, as the cases are treated on a severity of fire basis.

[Michelle] We fixed the wiring, if you check the records it was taken care of before we switched policies.

[911 operator] Please hold one moment while we check our records. ***long

pause***

[911 operator] Ok, it appears that you are correct. However, your policy requires a referral from the police department in cases of suspected arson.

Please hold while I transfer you to the police department.

[Michelle] Don't worry about it now; my house has fallen to the ground.

While the mandate for health insurance in the bill sucks...some good things will come from it like:

  • No more denial for pre-existing conditions (god forbid you have a bad gene in you)
  • Limits on the exorbitant fees imposed on those with pre-existing conditions
  • You will no longer be dropped from a plan for getting sick, nor be penalized with a higher rate
  • Changes to the medicare drug prescription program

Now we need to tackle tax reform. Stop giving the rich asshats in this country all of those wonderful tax breaks. It may look like they pay more, but with the breaks they get, they end up paying less percentage-wise than the middle-class, and just slightly more than those below the middle class but above the poverty line.

I support the flat, or consumption, tax!

Yet, 1 step closer to total Socialist control! Nice to know I served this country so this crap could happen!

It's not socialist control. In socialism, they don't fine/charge you for NOT having health insurance because the government provides a universal health care system paid through the taxes collected from the people. What this so called "health care reform" is, is nothing but a standardization of practices with health care providers and insurance providers, as well as a tight grip control on the people (of the USA) themselves.

Washington State and Idaho State are already preparing their state Attorneys Office to sue the Federal Government for this bill for it being "Unconstitutional".

"You must have heath insurance or you will have to pay a fine."

Basically, it's forcing something upon the people of this country, which is against LIBERTY and FREEDOM.

P.S. I think it's stupid to force something like this on people. At my last job I oped for the company insurance, which took just over $50 per paycheck at $100 a month. In the 2 years I had that, I never once went to a doctor and never once used it. That's a waste of $2,400 to me that I could have bought 2 new PCs with.

Chris Rock: "They shouldn't call it insurance, they should call it 'in case shit'. In case shit happens, there ya go."
