It would be stupid to keep CS:S running on the EP1 engine when it can be running on Orangebox, which it now is. Some mods will require an almost complete overhaul. As for the "need", it's a nice update, however, it's not "needed". The breaking of LUA functionality is not part of the OB engine. Noone cares about scripters using Lua client side hacks and script kiddy shit, its a better world without that. And Valve didn't remove Jailbreak or Minigames. The mods just have to be updated.
