Read the report... might help you make a better choice. In the majority of cases, AVIRA and Avast kicked AVG's butt...

Personal Choice: AVIRA

I would have actually gone with ESET, Kaspersky or Avira but I happened to have decided to try AVIRA and to see what will happen. =/

I use Avast, but I'd suggest checking out this Maximum PC article for more info on all of the options: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/protect_your_pc_from_guys_like_this

According to them, Norton Internet Security is the best of the best, but it also costs money. For free, they choose avira, and I have been considering switching over but I am also extremely lazy...

I like avast. The latest version made the interface much easier to use, so you can easily disable the annoying "VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED" sound.

The voiceover in the latest version isn't as annoying, but.... Just disable voiceovers in the settings.

Personally, I use it with Microsoft Security Essentials and the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

The only people who pay for antivirus are the chumps who read security articles.

In the field, Gerrit and I have done side by side tests on the random viruses that end up on our respective networks.

The most notable recent one was worm similar to the antivirus 2009 goodie. AVG, security essentials, norton, and nod could not detect it....Avast did.

Avast pro is for commercial use. The free version is perfectly adequate for normal users. If you do a lot of torrenting or file sharing, you should be testing the files in a VM anyways.
