U.S. is living beyond its means, Spending more than what we earn. you can not barrow 40% of the money you spend and give it away then barrow 2trillion more dollars to give away. We gave away our manufacturing behemoth that made America, to other countries, especially China. Communist China, if not already, has gained the worlds economic leadership. What is scary, contributing to their economy, also is making them a military giant, with super carriers, stealth aircraft etc. It may bode ill for the profiteers in our country who gave them this power if China becomes hostile. We have just made a fool out of ourselves in front of the world and our leaders in Washington don't even realize it or fail to recognize it. We have companies like General Motors who paid no taxes and receive over 1 billion dollars in tax incentives. Yet they could care less about producing more jobs here or keeping jobs here. They choose instead to ship jobs overseas just to make an extra buck. With this kind of loyalty and attitude along with Washington lobbyists running things, is why we are losing our economic leadership. Our system of government, with the careful implant of thorough checks and balances creates, by it's very design, incredible gridlock. Mind numbing gridlock. With increased financial stakes throughout our brief history this creates partisan politics through the roof. Greed and power mongering beyond compare. While we fight these internal wars and decimate and consume each other the rest of the world is developing, expanding, and passing us by in almost every worthwhile endeavor of achievement. it's a Sad thing. But it's reality. The Roman fell, the soviet fell, i guess it's our time now. We are becoming second rate because of our in-fighting, gridlock, and greed. As long as I don't pay more in taxes. The debt ceiling should have never been raised imo. Cuts, cuts, cuts. No matter.....as long as I have my 2nd amendment rights, all others will be protected. When Obama tries to raise it = Plenty problems. Darkwing duck, you need to realize that the Wikipedia is information based on anybody's opinions/data. I can go on that website and edit anything I wanted to on there. Wikipedia isnt always accurate, is what I mean. Dont get me wrong, I understand how you guys feel. But please do realize it wasnt only Obama's fault in this specific case. And most of us dont know everything about whats going on in Politics. We just hear, and read, and watch whats going on, and we all SHOULD know that many of those tv shows, news channels, magazines, newspapers , twitter feeds, face book comments, are biased. Also misleading, and/or inaccurate. We're all entitled to our own opinions. I respect yours. I just hope you guys are getting information from the right places. (Its a monetary system that the NA countries can default onto if their dollar goes bankrupt, but it isn't worth much). You are correct in saying that the Debt ceiling has been raised many times, but you also have to realize that money progresses exponentially not geometrically therefore creating more debt also increases exponentially as time continues, Global Trade was not a smart idea. Do you remember when McDonalds use to give out free ice cream? Think about it, wasn't it a better time back then. The problem is now with Global Trading its more about saving a dollar in total assembly then bringing quality parts. In the example of a Television, if an american company made a television back then they would make a sturdy tv and (i.e.) use a metal piece instead of a plastic one imported from over seas in order to save 1 dollar on total assembly per unit. The world market in large is based almost exclusively on US Dollars, so ultimately we will fall with everyone else evening everything out... China has Billions in US treasury bonds, they will get hard, But China is in a stronger position than any other Nation in the world, They actually don't spend more than what they earn. They're always italicized so it makes it an eye catcher We spent about a week last semester just analyzing the way government has to regulate economy in the US in my intermediate government course. One idea that came up in our discussion groups was that rarely does a congressman/politician come from the very undergrounds of society. There's never been a "Head of State" like president who grew up from an incredibly lowly status and worked his way up toward success. The closest to doing so would probably by LBJ and... Obama. These two presidents after reaching office have all but forsaken their sworn "allegiance" to the poor and fallen into the same corporate and political funnel that most politicians do. I agree with whoever said before that Obama was sort of thrown into an already fucked situation; I recognize that even as a Republican myself. However, I am not some Tea Party conservative who thinks big business is the crux of modern day economy; science has proven that it isn't. As such, I am a bit disappointed that this bill is the final resolution. Big business needs to pay up... but they won't because most of their wealth lies in foreign liquid assets. America may go down... but the gas companies won't. America is indeed fucked. But we'll make it through fucked. We always do. 9/11 we got fucked and we kept walking while being fucked. Yes Obama could have done it himself without the Congress/Senate, but Obama tries to cooperate with the other sides attempting partisanship. Both parties were and werent happy with the raise. No matter what the president does, not everybody will be happy. Its the way it is. Like Wabbit said, Greed baby. People will always want more. People expect the President and his cabinet to do everything right now. Fix everything right now. Its never like this. Obama sometimes forgets where he is and who he is. Laz, like you said, he sometimes is a puppet. But people need to realize that we all forget who we are sometimes. And get carried away. Wabbit and Isaac. I believe you guys misunderstood each other. Misinterpreted each others remarks and reacted through impulse. How bout we all just relax, sit down, drink a beer, listen to some good music, and have a conversation.
