I saw a shirt I liked for $97 but i had no money.

I borrowed $50 from mom and $50 from dad totalling $100

I bought the shirt and had $3 dollars change, $1 dollar went back to mum, $1 dollar back to Dad and i kept $1

I now owe mum and dad each $49

49+49=98+my 1 dollar = 99

Where did the other dollar go?

I'm so confused ._.

Simpler explanation:

$97 / 2 = $48.50 (owe each parent)

$48.50 + $1 = $49.50 (owe each parent with the added $1)

Now $49.50 + $49.50 = $99

$99 + $1(you kept) = $100

Okay I get it now.. I think

But how come in the Original question a dollar is missing?

He be trolling. To answer your question, the problem isn't your intelligence. It's the phrasing of the question. It is purposely designed to be misleading and to confuse for lulz. Professors do it all the time.

You word the question wrong and thus create the wrong equation. You in the end owe each of your parents 49 dollars. You should then be SUBTRACTING the one dollar you own, not adding it to the equation to get your total debt, 97 dollars, i.e. the amount you spent on the shirt.

Then again we all know you knew that since this is a copypasta right off 4chan and one of the most used troll math questions out there. But eh... I like playing along.

Math is part of being Korean.
