AMD's World Record

Apparently, AMD just set the new record of the highest overclock, clocked in @ 8.429 GHz, with their new Bulldozer CPU's. Now to do it on a consumer's side...

http://articles.cnn.com/2011-09-13/tech/tech_innovation_amd-chip-world-record_1_amd-chips-overclocking-bulldozer?_s=PM:TECH

8.429 GHz?!?! O.o that is ridiculous! anyone have any input on their new APU's? (Accelerated Processing Unit) I've been eyeing the 2.9 GHz A8-3850 Quad-Core APU and would like some feedback if any

well, intel can do 6.5 on AIR!

imagine with liquid nitrogen.

world records..

intels new sandy bridges cant even oc past 6 ghz on liquid nitrogen.. soo umm yeah get your facts straight http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/core_i7_2600k/#coolingType=

the celerons were the best clocking chip for a while now and amd has now de throned them.

? 6.5 is> than 5.0...

sandy is great. up untill about 5.5ghz. then it hits the notorious I7 wall.

no matter how cold you get it it is impossible for a sandy to get anywhere near the 8ghz range.

http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/core_i7_2600k/#coolingType=9

can barely break 6 with ln2...

http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/phenom_ii_x6_1100t_be/#coolingType=9

even the phenoms beat sandy with ln2....

Probably a little behind on the thread here. I have this Llano you speak of. What would you like to know??

I think an important thing missed here is that

1. This is probably only stable enough for them to validate this frequency and not usable in a daily environment. You'd be seriously wasting money and time to think you would want to run this on a daily basis.

2. This is not a simple comparison to say that higher frequency = better CPU. While in most cases, yes it's better. There are some circumstances where having multiple cores is purely advantageous. As well, the last part how phenoms beat SandyBridge is ambiguous at most. If you're talking about maximum reachable frequency, sure knock yourself out. However, if you're talking about a real-world environment, there simply is no comparison.

All in all, congrats to AMD for freezing their frequency to ~8.5 GHz for a few moments. To compare any further than that is just frivolous.

this is a thread about cpu frequency...

obviously sandy bridge is better for gaming multitasking etc.

i never said that the phenoms where the better chip. If i wanted more BOINTs i would buy a phenom though because they can be clocked higher and receive more points then the sandys atm. (actually id get another celeron) For a new gaming rig and daily use id buy sandy (atleast until dozer shows up)

Phenoms did beat sandy in the frequency department. Thats all I was saying, don't assume things

http://hwbot.org/benchmark/superpi_32m/ super pi is the ultimate cpu tester. I believe that this bench is the test to see which cpu is the best all around. Sandy clearly beats out amd in every way while the 980x is still the best (dont get it confused with sandy bridge though its a 1000 dollar chip) hyperthreading ftw

im an overclocker. i have been for two years now. Been -10c with dice on my old 550 be. The 8.5gz is a amazing accomplishment to me

Hi fello Oc'er! Pi is great. What team are you on?

A lot of things determine a good time on PiMod. Fast Ram tight timings the proper divider ect. ect. Intel is faster at floating point integer.... That's what makes it such a great Cpu. Besides the feature of HT.

-10c is not cold enough for Dice. You should have been down around -70c at the core reading. But really awesome to see some one else doing it, I really Dig it

People shouldnt game unless they OC. LOL Just kidding ;)

OCF forums team

inactive atm due to college taking my cash away and i killed my gig 790fx and 550 be.

and yeah my dice run=failure. id love to give it another go tho when i replace my mobo and get dozer.

Cant wait to try my 1090t cold

Sounds awesome. But your Dice run isn't a failure. It's a part of learning. I've broken lots of hardware

I'd like to see some pictures of your 550BE run. Care to post any if available? And when you do the 1090T, maybe open a thread here and share? I'm afraid I don't go to a lot of forums because of time. There's never enough lol.
