Rim
Hello all. I wanted to discuss an issue that I've encountered. I'm not able to use my voice option in the server. I've been messing with my settings for months trying to figure it out with no success. The other day, I ran across the following post in the Steam Users Forum: Well i guess the option is there (only settable server side though BUT most server owners/admin do not know about it) but the default setting is with the new codec enabled which is what causes the voice issues in game. http://store.steampowered.com/news/5305/ # Updated voice to use the Steam voice codec to improve quality * Servers can toggle between the old codec and the new codec with the convar "sv_use_steam_voice", which defaults to 1. Since it defaults to on anyone using windows XP runs into the compatibility issue. the only two options is are either upgrade to windows 7 (which many can not afford), or have the server owners/admin set the convar to sv_use_steam_voice 0 until Valve can fix the issues with the new voice codec and windows XP. or have valve issue a update to default the new voice codec to disabled so that people can once again talk in games. And only set it to enables if the server owner so chooses or Valve set to enables after they fix the issue with XP. The entire original thread can be read here. Is there any chance we can set the servers to use the old codec until this issue is fixed so that we can all use our mics if we choose to? Thanks so much for any attention, please let me know if I can do anything to help resolve this issue or if I can provide any further information.
