Poohunter Posted May 21, 2012 Share Posted May 21, 2012 To start, let me show you an example. - *Poohunter plays music on HLDJ (it's a warday)* - Some random dude who has bad taste in music asks Poohunter to stop - Everybody else on the server likes the song (except for that one guy) - Of course I must stop because HE doesn't like it (or I'll get muted) - Everybody except that one guy is sad at the end What am I trying to suggest? Make a vote system for the mute. If somebody doesn't like the song, they can call a vote for the person to stop playing (make the vote only last a few seconds otherwise it will take too long and people might get pissed off). If the vote is successful, the person must stop playing or an admin can mute him. This way, DEMOCRACY IS ENFORCED. Also, there won't be one of those idiots who literally ask EVERY single person to stop. Also, if they keep crying about it, tell them to go into the mute menu and mute them themselves. If I wanted to hear overplayed mainstream pop and dubstep, as well as people "singing" about how they got Chucky Cheese for their birthday, I would sit down with a bowl of Cheetos, a box of hot pockets and a 2 liter of Mountain Dew and watch YouTube's "featured" videos all day. So, with my opinion stated, I think we should actually ban HLDJ altogether as it is just pointless spam that gives me a headache. But on the other side of the toaster strudel, I realize a big part of HGJB is for the younger population, who don't have mice so are forced to use HLDJ, to get together after school and annoy us all with their "crappy taste of music" (there is really no such thing. Just because you like an artist that someone else doesn't, doesn't mean they have a crappy taste in music, because it is all based on opinion. No matter how much I hate Niki Minaj and Drake.) My point is, we want to keep this server bearable (lol) for everyone. And let's be truly honest here, if you were at a movie theater watching a movie and all of a sudden I ran up to you and started playing the Jonas Brothers, or course you would tell me to shut up. And you wouldnt care if the 20 other people in the theater were enjoying it. tl;dr You're not cool when you spam the server with stupid soundclilps and songs. People come here to play the game and socialize not listen to your music. And I would ban HLDJ before taking away someone's right to tell you to turn off your music. I don't care for sounds clips that are spammed over and over, or as bon bon said, music you can find on youtubes featured. No one is ever going to agree on a song, and a muted feature would be abused and is pointless IMO. If anything, i think things are fine the way they are. Ron Paul Posted May 21, 2012 Share Posted May 21, 2012 *Ron Paul speaks from experience In JB, the reason why lots of people like it, is because of HLDJ, its spammed a lot, yea, but when used right (IE: Freeddooooooooooom clip) when rushing 1st cell, it makes everything funny. Chuck E Cheese for my birthday made me lol a lot. Obviously it didn't singularly cause the success of HGJB, but it did help. It does get annoying when people are d/cing due to buffer overflow (do rate 50000000000000000000000000) in console. On wardays when I call a silent warday, and people spam HLDJ, I get upset, because no one cares about punishments from admins anymore. *Ron Paul exits the room, the world leaders are speechless about what they've just heard. If I want to listen to music though, I open youtube, as kumy said. But yeah, people will always complain about it. I mean, I do think the vote for admins and vip can be ok, but then still people would complain. Jessica's solution is what I do and has never failed to succeed for me! mute the players you are annoyed by = problem solved. It's T's spamming most of the time anyways.. In fact, a good majority of them actual spam as much or even more than any other person on the server. And im not just saying with HLDJ, but just straight up talking. On the note of banning HLDJ, since it seems this is turning into another one of those threads, i believe that people will find other ways to be annoying and then will lead to just having everyone else muted besides lead and then that could lead to Jailbreak being less popular. Am i saying that we shouldn't ban hldj, hell no im not! Its fun every once in awhile when someone brings something new to the server or whatever, but then you get people who start to get massive boner from playing some sound clip of the turrets guy. If not HLDJ, it will just be screaming or singing the same songs that they would have spammed. Admins are good about dealing with spammers IMO (too good actually... lazy crooks need to stop using !mute @t and mute the SPECIFIC FUCKERS WHO ARE SPAMMING). It's as I've said in server multiple times: You can install iTunes/Winamp/Spotify/YoutubePlaylists/Whathaveyou to listen to shitty music. Of course. Please, please please do. It gets really annoying some times. Some times I'm on the server, and a warday happens and I think to myself "Oh great! What a wonderful time to SOCIALIZE and TALK TO OTHER PEOPLE. So I start talking, and BAM immediately there's 10 kids trying to spam the same songs they play every single day. I could care less if you guys like to giggle like little school girls when someone plays a clip like "freedom" while they're rushing to first cell. Nevodka Posted May 21, 2012 Share Posted May 21, 2012 I find the current system to be working well, and the fact that one person can stop a song everybody else likes is just a byproduct of a necessary rule. It certainly won't ruin all your fun when the occasional player asks each song to be stopped, because that doesn't happen the majority of the time. A votemute, on the other hand, is likely to be abused and used on players with just annoying voices as well as those playing songs. Also, as a side note here, players technically aren't supposed to be using sound clips when it's not part of a game and there is somebody leading, even if it's in between orders. So if you're finding that a persistent problem as well, just be aware that it IS within an admin's rights to mute players doing that, whether it is annoying or not.
