This behavior, of focusing on the little things instead of the real problems we face, is not only a problem in religious circles but in secular ones as well. If we all honestly just paid more attention to our surroundings instead of ourselves and assisted our fellow man or woman it could drastically change how society works and how society worships capitalism.
