Reaper
Hey all, I am thinking about slightly modifying my snowmobile to incorporate some "underglow" of sorts. My vision of it all would look something like this HOWEVER, I do not own that snowmobile. I own 1 vintage John Deere Trailfire 440 that is almost 100% silver. I also own 1 (almost) vintage Arctic Cat El Tigre EXT (I think that the specific model is the Mountain Cat) that is almost exclusively black with some Arctic Cat green in there. My sled looks similar to this: http://upit.co/i/Arctic_Cat.jpg I was thinking about doing the underglow to the Artic Cat and make the LEDs to be green. Now here is the main point of this thread: Do you think it would be worth the effort? and secondly, would green work or should I go with a different color? Cookie
I own 1 vintage John Deere Trailfire 440 that is almost 100% silver. Not sure how practical a 100% silver snow mobile would be since it would get distorted from hitting the snow
Jake
Don't see how this improves performance.

Reaper
Trolls? Not sure how practical a 100% silver snow mobile would be since it would get distorted from hitting the snow It is silver in color. There is no practicality in having a snowmobile MADE of silver. I am not applying the under glow to the John Deere. The sled itself needs some work before it is trail worthy. I was going to implement the under glow onto the Arctic Cat Sled, pictured about in my first post. With that said, Yes, there is no performance boost from it, it is not meant to increase performance. It is almost a vintage snowmobile, and as such, I would like to add some of my own modifications to it to spruce it up a tad. At some point I plan on buying a brand new sled, which is also the point at which I will wrap a sled around a tree. I also plan on doing the same thing to the brand new sled. In general, Adding LEDs is just for visuals, NOTHING ELSE Edited December 12, 2012 by Reaper
mccaincracker
I think it'd be a neat project and probably look really neat in the evening. ultimately it's up to you, but i'd say go for it
Reaper
I think it'd be a neat project and probably look really neat in the evening. ultimately it's up to you, but i'd say go for it What color LEDs? Arctic Cat was dominated by Black, Green, and Purple... My sled doesn't have an ounce of purple paint or vinyls on it. Black LEDs are not manufactured. I am just wondering what colors would work better. I was thinking green but a lot of my bogey wheels in the rear suspension are green (had to replace them, the previous owner rolled the sled w/o telling us when we bought it... maybe that is why it was $100). I could go white, but white is white... dull and boring. I might implement 2-3 circuits to make the LEDs flash. 1 switch to have the LEDs on or off at full power, 1 switch to make the LEDs blink, and 1 switch to activate some warning/hazard lights (which i think would be cool especially if I break down on the side of the trail at night). and possibly a 4th switch to make the LEDs do some cool random pattern. Side note: I plan on stripping it down to the bare bones and sanding/priming/spray painting any spots that need it inside/outside the engine bay. Also plan on checking all rivets to ensure that the snowmobile won't fall apart as it is going down the trail. Track needs to be replaced soon. I need to check coolant lines/hoses and the containers/reservoirs.
mccaincracker
I think arctic cat green would look pretty epic
Reaper
Ok, So I'll start collecting parts (will need about 100 green LEDs and probably 50 orange (for the hazard lights)). Hopefully I can get a cost estimate done by the 31st. I was talking to a friend who basically owns an electrical component junkyard (all parts are 100% functioning). He said that I could buy a few things from him, like printed circuit boards (for the flashing aspect of it), like 1,000 LEDs (he has all the different color possibilities) and some other small stuff. I will have to talk to him about the cost, and if he doesn't have something, I will have to look on digikey.com to order them.
