Alright I need some help with a few things.

I plan on upgrading my rig in preparation for BF4 and future games to come.

 

Right now I have a ATI Raedon HD 6770 video card. I run BF4 with minor lag.

I also have 6GB of memory, however some of the memory sticks are old and from an older computer.

And then also, I have never bought memory before, I have no idea how to go about it.

Need the acutal processor name. There are to many that have 4 cores and 2.8 ghz haha could be a quad pentium XD

If it is something along those lines of old cpus (could be a dual core hyperthread showing 4 but only has 2 phsyical.) then upgrading will probably be pointless due to bottleneck issues. But never know might be a good CPU

Download a program called CPU-z to get more info on it.

or is there something out there that's better? I really just want 8GB but the 16GB seemed like a deal with Corsair.

Kingston runs at 1.65V and at the same memory timings as the Corsair so if you're looking to reduce heat/electricity usage... stay away from the Kingston (although I'm not saying Don't buy it at all)

 

I'm not experienced on how AMD handles synchronising RAM with its south bridge or inside the chip however... it is debatable on whether tighter timings or higher frequency is better.

 

imo, prioritise the following

 

Capacity -> Frequency -> Timing

Home users (although most home users would only gain the advantage in capacity)/Gamers (frequency being probably more important if your mobo supports it)

 

Frequency/Timing -> capacity

Enthusiasts/Overclockers

 

Once again, it honestly depends on your motherboard, its chipset and the processor you're using.

 

Back when Core 2 xxx was in its infancy, (As an example), a lot of overclockers liked synchronising the base frequency of the RAM (Fbase = Flist / 2) with the FSB (e.g. 400, 667, 800). Nowadays, it is fairly different and each chipset/processor handles RAM differently.

Coming from experience, all AMD 800 and 900 series cpus love the fuck out of tighter timings.

Not relevant tho....get a new cpu gpu and memory if you really want to see any gains. You may get a small performance boost with the new card but it will not be to noticeable. Also with the ram you probably wont notice a difference either.
