Dynas
Are you exclusively a console gamer? Well maybe it's time you consider switching over to PC gaming. It's cheaper in the long run as illustrated by this graphic which shows that even though the initial up-front cost is higher, the long term cost is cheaper than consoles. Now that being said, I went ahead and made you guys a build for around $700 that destroys next-gen consoles including the operating system. Now I went with AMD because it's cost effective but if you want different options like intel or nvidia then that's fine too (it'll just cost more). http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3iTwC And if we spend $30 more we could get an aftermarket heatsink and overclock a bit. Or if you prefer we could even add an SSD for super snappy operating systems. Anyway hopefully this opens your eyes a bit to the wonderful world of PC's.

StyleeZy
What 60$ titles come out for console that come out for 40$ on steam? Also. Please go buy a 650$ PC and tell me 8 years from now it will run those new 40$ releases!
Anthony
Very true, plus very many more mods/add-ons to original games.
Short
Please go buy a 650$ PC and tell me 8 years from now it will run those new 40$ releases! This, but at the same time consoles won't be doing too well themselves ( likely sub 720p ~30 fps ). In the end I would rather just keep my pc up to date and get whatever is standard at that time ( 1440p and 4k will probably be the norm by then ). edit: just noticed in the small print about putting the left over money into upgrades. Please go buy a 650$ PC and tell me 8 years from now it will run those new 40$ releases! I think he means $50 dollars. Some games that come out on console are $60 while one the PC it is $50 dollars. For example Dark Souls 2 on the PS3 is $60 while on Steam for the PC it is $50. Also I have consoles that sit there just for console exclusive games that don't make it to the PC. Side note I think Dynas has way too much time on his hands to make a thread like this.
xafizzle
What about every new Call of Duty and Battlefield game? Those are really expensive on PC as well as XBOX. All the famous RPGs will be $60. Every new Elder Scrolls and Fallout release will be priced equally. The only reason that games may be cheaper on PC is that the market is far larger and thus has better deals. Not to mention Steam Summer Sales. But aside from sales, you will not be able to get most games for less on the PC than on consoles for new releases. However, I have never in my entire life paid full price for any game except the Halo games and KH1&2. I always wait months before I buy a game and because of that I have probably saved hundreds of dollars on games since switching to PC. BUT, unless you have a customizable computer, in 3 or 4 years, your PC will be practically useless. I am on an iMac that was gifted to me and it works great and has a massive monitor and it can run every game there is. But I know that in 2 or 3 years, I'll have to get a new computer if I want to play the brand new games (which I probably won't, but just saying). I think it's a lot more personal preference and smart buying that make consoles and the PC very close in longtime cost if not equal. 8 years later, the 360 can still run new games. I guarantee you that you won't find a new computer that can do that. Even if you upgrade parts one by one, your whole machine would be different after 5 or 6 years.
