I don't feel like going through this thread and deleting every retard juice-laden post made. So I'll just add this:

STAY ON FUCKING TOPIC.

THIS IS A DISCUSSION ABOUT A POSSIBLE MOBILE VERSION OF THE WEBSITE, NOT ABOUT WHICH PHONE YOU JERK OFF TO.

And on that topic I say why put the resources and time into making a single application towards a single mobile device when there's already a mobile application for the clan that is the HG Twitter page? It's already up, easy to use, and widely available on any mobile that's able to use the web.

Because twitter is gay.

Trying to hijack the thread right from the start, pisses me off, and makes me completely want to ban the shit out of you.

Make things a little bit more simple to navigate. Generally the same thing any mobile web app for any phone does..

Exactly, just a thought, and there really wouldn't be much to it. This site is not really all that easy to navigate on the iPhone, even when ur viewing the Lite version. The real problem/headache is going through apple to approve it. However, that TapaTalk that Homer posted looked pretty cool. It could get better than that also though.

I'm sorry, I wasn't really trying to hijack it at all. And I do apologize for inserting my opinion to the post itself. :mybad:

As for staying on topic, it is topic to suggest that the Twitter feed itself could and should serve as a mobile communication network for the clan without having someone have to spend time and resources in making an iPhone specific app? It to me seems like a more logical choice and gives an equal opportunity of communication for those without iPhones too.

It's not so much the phone that is an issue, it's that a specific application for the phone would be incompatible for other similar smart-phones and leave people with those out of the loop. {However, this does not seem to be the case with the application previously mentioned in this thread that works for the Droid and eventually coming to the Blackberry}.

The problem with a Twitter feed is that it's limited to 160 characters and is disjointed by design. It would be a nightmare to track.

Personally, I like my RSS feed, but an app would make it nice to do things a little easier should I need to actually post something on the go.

Then again, and this is a separate can of worms, apps are not good for an open internet, web pages that format nicely for mobile use are the way to go, but to each their own. HTML5? :P

In a nice way, I don't think Twitter is the answer, but just as the last post, even just a page that will fit your mobile device, WHATEVER it may be, would be cool. It doesn't have to be an app for the iPhone. Notice on the original post it said "smartphone." I just thought it would be easier to navigate around on something a lil "dumbed down." For mobile devices that is, the site fuckin Rocks!!

Well, okay, so if Twitter isn't the answer, then lets get to the bottom of what exactly you'd like as far as context within a mobile application, and then apply solutions from there. The only reason I'd suggested Twitter was because it's scaled to phones nicely, easy to use and navigate and keeps backlogs of the posts (rather than most chat/text apps that wipe data every couple of hours or some even every half hour).

So, what is it ya wants in a mobile application:

1) Communication text style, right?

2) Clan announcements.

3) More than 160+ character limit (considering that's Twitter's crutch)

4) Posting links, images, and possible MP3s?

So, what else would an application for a mobile need to fit what's wanted for an HG mobile app?

I think there should be an App to alert council/staff/admins depending on priority of stuff.

Would alerting them be a moot point if they're not near their computer to do something about what's needed? Or, are you referring more to a "bat signal" style of once alerted, they run home to answer the call of what's needed to be helped out?

I'm thinking a very simple HTML version of all of the things people commonly access on the site would do the trick. I guess a lot of it would depend on vBulletin's flexibility for how things are formatted, but maybe something like this...

All of these options presented with one link. Possibly oversized for easier touching.

Top level links. Nothing fancy here, just a portal to everything (Login. Forums. Private messages. Server list)

Forum top level (General, ban reports, blah blah blah)

Sub forums (whatever)

Point being, the information/forum is displayed in a way that is easy to navigate on a mobile device, and has a lot of the complex or bandwidth hungry data stripped out, like 6000 divs common to most webpages or images (avatar/sig/etc.) Quick and easy.

.02 if we do something outside of Tapatalk.

This. When I was discussing it with our brain trust, I recommended, that, if we were going into the app direction, create a simple main menu with a Forums button, a chatbox button, a UI/PM button, and maybe a server list/admin tools button.

Have the forums in a simple text protocol (basic HTML mayhaps) and just use contrast colors and fonts for reading clarification.

Mockup teim.

Forgive the lazy HTML, I threw this together in nvu. It's also kind of ugly, but that tends to happen in mobile sites unless you're Google and write in pretty languages. There's room for aesthetic improvement if I tried. I'm also lazy and didn't steal all of the images from the site and insert them.

But this is pretty much how I picture it ending up. It would also have to be formatted for mobile device resolution, so ignore the spillage over the right margin. Quote buttons would be on each post and the background color would alternate on posts, which I couldn't remember how to do.
