DarkMonotone
Hoping, they'll find signs of extraterrestrial life. Although I am a little discouraged by them sending a rover to mars considering how we probably wont find anything worth the billions of dollars going into the project. Although I am a little discouraged by them sending a rover to mars considering how we probably wont find anything worth the billions of dollars going into the project. It cost $2.5 billion to get the rover to Mars. In 2010, the budget for the military in the US was about $670 billion. In that same year, NASA had about $8.7 billion. In the entire existence of NASA, the total budget was about $526 billion. So in one year, we spend more on the military than we do expanding knowledge and understanding. We may not find life, but it is an achievement in itself. We just shot a rocket millions of miles and successfully landed it on another planet in a location we planned and knew when it was going to land down to the minute. Dark, you are 15, and your lack of understanding of this accomplishment makes me sad. When I was your age I was so pumped to hear about bitchen stuff like this. I'm hoping for Non-Carbon based life, or non oxygen using organisms.

It's also worth mentioning that a lot of things that NASA develops end up having practical use outside of the immediate realm of exploration. Our satellite communications grid was based on NASA's work. Largely like DARPA, though a defense research organization, was responsible for the birth of the internet. This is one of the reasons why I was extra sad when NASA pretty much stopped active space missions several years ago.

It was cool the first couple times but now it is just kinda...
Wingless
Pretty much because people stopped having interest in having moon rocks. It was cool the first couple times but now it is just kinda... It had a lot to do more with the government having a budgeting crisis, and NASA being a non-essential administration.
Awwik
Pretty much because people stopped having interest in having moon rocks. It was cool the first couple times but now it is just kinda... How much longer do you think we can survive on this planet? With out space exploration our species is doomed, its a fact. If you think it is kinda......then why dont you make a rover and fly it to mars. Land it in working condition and get valuable experience out of it. Yeah, we're not going to just stumble upon alien technology that lets explore far off worlds in the blink of an eye. Oh, wait...

Citrix
Yeah, we're not going to just stumble upon alien technology that lets explore far off worlds in the blink of an eye. Oh, wait... That is only in MMORPG space games. But it would really be a incredible prototype if NASA could develop something like that, but for now, we don't have the resources (I think) to develop something like that.
