Dolan
What happens if someone f.e me has very lo karma or w/e its called, does something happen or is it just there to divide in the people you can ask qs or you cant.
mccaincracker
I think that's all still in the works but i think it may revoke certain privledges. However i'm still not 100% sure.
LazaHorse
I think that's all still in the works but i think it may revoke certain privledges. However i'm still not 100% sure. It had better not. Have you seen this community? Bands of 10-20 people would form just to downvote people they don't like to strip them of privileges. Democracy doesn't work when the people of the polis have no virtue (went Plato on your asses). Rep/Karma should be completely irrelevant to someone's standing in HG and just a quirky way to share passive opinions. Or HorseRanger's already fucked. enigma#
Officially speaking , karma is an official way to determine reputation of a person on forums (not the only way though). At a certain point if you get enough negative karma, you can negative consequences for your forum account. I am aware people will intentionally downvote something but that is characteristic of almost any reputation system. I don't think 10-20 DVs would cause a ban or anything btw but it doesn't entitle you to be an asshole and get away with it
LazaHorse
I don't think 10-20 DVs would cause a ban or anything btw but it doesn't entitle you to be an asshole and get away with it That's what we have forum moderators for. They give out infractions when need be. I don't see anything wrong with that older system for delivering punishments on the forums. We give people leadership positions based on their merits, and with that comes police power over the forums. Much better than a system based on the democratic opinion of a less-than-logical community. Only problem with the latter was when people would take it upon themselves to be harbingers of holy justice and hand out infractions off-the-cuff. Luckily, I don't see that very much in our current leadership roster. Real.

It shouldn't end up becoming something that revokes privileges on the forums.

It shouldn't end up becoming something that revokes privileges on the forums. We disagree. We have our own system tuned for situations where exceptions will be necessary. No need to sound alarmist but it's not a big deal if you have negative rep, especially if it is for no good reason. We will have account for that when taking into consideration any significant action. That's what we have forum moderators for. They give out infractions when need be. Plus I dont' have a problem flat out banning people causing issues. Karma is a way to get an opinion (valid or invalid) from the reading population, it's not like unregistered lurkers can upvote or downvote. As well, upvoting and downvoting is limited to a certain amount. I tested it with one of green's posts (Thanks green ranger for being guinea pig xD)
DarkMonotone
To be honest, I don't really see it effective at all. This has turned into ESEA, when someone blocks/negative karma's you, you just turn around and do it right back to them. There should at least be rules against -1ing and if not it's just going to turn into a huge revenge fest. Edit: The OP is a prime example, he had a completely legitimate question and someone -1's it. Why are things like this going to be allowed or are we just going to have to find out who -1ed us and give them -3's or something to make up for the stupid -1 they gave us? That's what it looks like to me. Edited November 14, 2012 by Mèrcury
Dolan
I'm starting to not like this system because just of this question which wasnt ment to troll or anything im getting -2 karma like wtf? Im also starting to think that people are just starting to troll with this +karma -karma and it really bugs me, i mean ok, on that post about the divsional duck thing and the instagram thing, okay, i get it, but just because of an honest fucking question your go to -1 me? enigma#
You guys are being way to0 reactive to a -1. Do you really think a -1 is that bad (will it be the end of the world if you get a -1)? Seriously and I mean this with no offense, get a grip of yourself; stop worrying over a few -1s. If it is one or two, or even three minus ones. I don't think it's all bad. We will have leadership monitor it as well like I said in the previous post. I'm sure we can punish the people who abuse the karma system. Stop being so alarmist about change and work with us please, it's different... but it's something we can all get used to and learn to adapt to.

So will punishments be automated or is it more of a "This guy is getting a lot of downvotes deservedly, so we're going to talk to him or punish him." If it's automated, that's retarded. If it's manual, I don't see a difference at all. It also just occurred to me that this is in Ask Leadership. Neither I nor DarkHeretic should have posted here... This is the second time I've unknowingly posted in an Ask Leadership thread because it's damn near impossible to recognize with how dark the directory text is at the top. Enigma fix it please before I get infrac'd for dis shet. Real. Edited November 14, 2012 by LazaHorse

I realized that this was Ask Leadership, and I posted here anyways because I had a concern to bring up to leadership as well and thought it better to post here instead of making an entirely new thread. Also enjoy your negative karma.
enigma#
there will be automated punishments but we do have auditing and can watch over what is going on. If there is a punishment that has been caused by abuse of the karma system, we can reverse it without issue. Consider it a hybrid (automatic with auditing abilities) system @lazarus I'llhave ot ask homer about the style and how the forums flow because of it. lol I'm fine with answering these questions but please be more understanding and stop making ASSUMPTIONS it is SIMILAR but not the SAME as ESEA...
