On "racism" And The Word "wigger"...

I would like to host a polite and respectful discourse on the topic of what is perceived as "racist" on this server. Recently, I was banned by Hanabal for my lighthearted use of the word "wigger". Now, this in itself is ridiculous enough, but I would like to take it a step further and address the servers stance on the use of the "n" word.

 

FACT: "n****r", when used in a song in any manner not derogatory (i.e. "my n***a") by a black artist is almost universally recognized as not being racist. This server allows for cursing of all sorts, misogyny, and homophobia so I fail to understand why playing a song featuring this term warrants punishment. Racism, in my humble opinion, should not be defined by words but rather the context behind them. I also believe that to strip a word of its negative connotation you should treat it like any other.

 

Moving on, I'd like to focus on the double standard of allowing homophobia/misogyny/other hateful language but not "racist terms". How can admins justify use of words like "fag" and "bitch" (which are thrown around on this server like everyday vernacular) but ban me upon using "wigger"? If some hate speech is banned, why not all?

 

Also: I would like to reach a consensus on whether or not the term "wigger" is racist/offensive enough to warrant band since their was some debating this going on among JBers.

 

I look forward to discussing this with you guys/getting back on the server!

Maybe you didn't read my post. My argument is that some terms aren't necessarily derogatory given appropriate context (i.e. n word used in a song by a black artist)/no less deserving of punishment than other hateful language (which is accepted on the server).

Some Trash Talk is accepted, any form of racism is not accepted. If you're think you're doing something wrong or if you say something that you know to be a term that a race/religion/etc won't like then don't say it and you won't get banned.

A. Talk to the admins on the server and tell them that you have a problem with it

OR

B. Post a report on hgbans and someone will review it.

Loving the snarky replies, anyone want to direct me to a thread that addresses similar points? I used the search function to little avail. Here they are in bullet-point for those who seem to be unable to derive information from blocks of text:

 

- the word "wigger" and whether its use should be a bannable offense

- why the "n word" is disallowed but "fa****" is encouraged as "Trash Talk"

- how/why the use of the "n word" in songs by black artists is considered racist (I was able to find some conversation on this)

Haha. ^ You aren't understanding... Rules are rules. They aren't going to change. They have been like this for god knows how long and they aren't GOING to change. Terms such as "bitch", "fag", "prick", etc. are derogatory words. They are not "racist" terms. The "n" word or ANY word derived from the "n" word are words that are a put-down to a certain race. Any racial slur is a put-down to a certain group of people and our community does not put up with the use of any racial slurs on our forums. Doesn't matter the context, that's that.

Also, trash talk is not ENCOURAGED. Yes, it is ALLOWED, but there is a difference.

 

Also: Wig*er is a term derived from the literal definition "n" word, an ignorant individual, but has taken a urban slang twist for someone of Caucasian descent which would mean it is technically a racial slur, meaning it's not allowed in HG.

fyi: I was in a school that had race riots when I was a Junior. All started by 6 a kids who thought using these terms was ok to use in yearbook signings. that was in NY, the melting pot of America. If it was not cool back then, it is not cool now, and will never be cool.

You would be one of those fools that would be easily convinced that eating dead babies will give you magical powers becuase you saw it on a BET/MTV/MusicBox video. Wake up, and cultivate some dignity for your self, stop being ignorant.

I will say though, I think there is room for discussion on how the community handles hate speech in it's gaming environment. Is calling someone a fa**** much different than calling someone the n-bomb?

The reason "racist" terms are not allowed regardless of the context it is because if we did allow it in a non derogatory way then we wouldn't always be able to distinguish whether someone meant it to be offensive or if they were just joking.

 

Also, i hope you weren't just banned on the spot and were atleast muted/kicked.
