Sarcastic Lemon
I played the mod a lot like a year or two ago but I stopped playing after things got terrible with hackers. It also got really frustrating with all the glitches in the game, could barely run the game at a decent framerate for no reason, the whole 9 yards. I just got tired of it everyone stopped teaming up and communicating. It was just a free for all with zombies which were not much of a threat to begin with. Fast forward to now. The standalone comes out in an alpha and i hear its pretty glitch. Is it worth getting now or is it really as bad as everyone says? Is the community back to the glory days? Will the price change in the future? Really not sure how HG will embrace this new standalone either. So should i drop the $30 now or wait? Pilpest
DayZ Standalone is DayZ Alpha... So you can already assume what to expect either way.

Pilpest
How long will it be in alpha? However long it takes for Rocket to decide its worthy to go into Beta... It is more on the Developers rather then a time and date, the last one they gave us was rather bullshit.
Slophole
Pro's of getting now: - chance it will be Cheaper than when it's released (example minecraft was 9$ in alpha, now it's 30.) - Whether you know it or not you will be helping with development, especially if you actively report bugs and junk. - Tho it is still clunky because of the modified Arma 3 engine it is less clunky than the Arma 2 engine and it's current DayZ Mod. - DayZ specific in game server browser - You get to see all the changes and get to say stuff like "remember when zombies could walk through walls" and other worthless things you hear people talk about to show how long they have been playing for. Con's - The DayZ mod for Arma 2 is more seasoned and has a bigger player base at the moment. - It is in Alpha so there will be noticeable bugs. -the game will change faster than you can adjust since it is still in development phase. Mechanics may change, and items/props/structures may be added. heck a whole new map may be created. but that is the beauty of an alpha. as far as hackers. they are in every game. It's only more noticeable in games that take time and grinding ( WoW, Diablo, Arma) you also have to look at the people giving it bad reviews. How often do they play these sorts of games, if so which one (i.e. ISS aka WarZ, Rust, and other similar games). Can they not afford the game, or they don't want to leave the Arma2 mod because they don't like change (i.e. People who only like "Vanilla WoW" and CS 1.6 or CSS). Is it worth it: Yes, It may not seem like it at first but the game will mature and get better and better. Hope this helps. you make the decision for yourself and you will be happy. Short
From rocket: My opinion For the current game? No For the price? No (it will stay this price for some time) To see the game? No (you can watch streams) To participate in development? Possibly Overall, I would not recommend it. But I think in a few weeks, it might go from "possible" to "yes" on the last one. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/155089-is-it-worth-buying-dayz-standalone-yet-rocket-response/#entry1554128 Edited December 24, 2013 by Short
Mr. Sandman
Look at it this way, the zombies dont fucking glitch out constantly, and for me at least the game runs smoother than arma 2 mod, i got the standalone, and im fairly happy with it, the map is very different than the old chernarus, tons of new open buildings and lots of new towns. since side chat has been removed, people cant communicate over a distance, making everyone more on edge and overall less friendly, bandits are abound. As it stands the game is playable, with only a few "huge bugs" most of the issues they still have revolve around the old issues.
Sarcastic Lemon
Thanks for all the responses, I think I'll pick it up eventually when I get the money. Not really worried about the price changing and I know I'll be playing a lot of it in the future (hopefully). I miss the days of scavenging for supplies and hearing gunshots in the distance and going "oh shit i hope that sniper didn't see me go through town." Not the mention i hear the survival element is more prominent and more unforgiving in this game. Anyone up to play when I get it?

Kalron
I have a couple questions as well. I am going to buiy it as soon as possible so I don't pay $60 when it comes out What would I need to run it on max? And what is the general consensus on how it runs? I don't want bugs, but are there crashing issues or really bad frame rates even though you have like a titan or something? Basically is it like BF4 beta? Lol
Pilpest
If you can run arma3 you're good.

Killuminati
Even though it's alpha, its pretty fun when you get together with a few buddies. Taking hostages, trying to not to get killed, and looting everything. We usually have a group of around 4 when we play and it gets pretty damn fun
