Yankees-Rockies Preview

MLB Sports news date: 2013-05-08,   Soggy weather is keeping Troy Tulowitzki on the bench again. Tulowitzki won't be back in the lineup as the Colorado Rockies try to send the New York Yankees to a third consecutive shutout defeat on the road for the first time in 84 years Wednesday night. Colorado (19-13) opened this three-game series with Tuesday's 2-0 win, as Carlos Gonzalez's two-run homer proved to be enough. Tulowitzki, the NL's second-leading hitter with a .348 average, missed the game with lingering soreness in his left leg. The Rockies were expecting him back Wednesday, but given the damp conditions expected throughout the night, Colorado elected to play it safe and sit him out for a second straight game. Manager Walt Weiss, trainer Keith Dugger and Tulowitzki met in Weiss' office for quite a bit before reaching the decision. Tulowitzki says he will be available to pinch hit and "hopefully come up in a big spot and get a big hit for the team." The Rockies overcame steady rain and lightning plus the Yankees on Tuesday, and they've also dealt with snow, bitter cold and winds at Coors Field this season. "Hopefully in two months we'll play in good weather here," said Gonzalez, also among the league leaders with a .322 average. The left fielder has been on a tear of late, batting .429 with three doubles, three homers and six RBIs in his last seven games. "I always have a good feeling when CarGo's in the box," Weiss said. "He can change the game with one swing." Colorado, though, hasn't won two straight since a season-high eight-game winning streak April 12-20. Juan Nicasio (3-0, 4.91) is expected to get a chance to change that. The right-hander has failed to complete five innings in two of his last three starts, and he was lifted after four in last Wednesday's 7-3 road win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He allowed three runs and five hits with two walks while throwing 92 pitches. Nicasio didn't get a decision in his only meeting with the Yankees on June 26, 2011. He tossed four scoreless innings before giving up three runs and two homers while exiting after the fifth in a 6-4 loss at New York. The Yankees (18-13) will try to get to Nicasio again after losing their last two road games via shutouts. They haven't been blanked in three straight away from home since Aug. 22-24, 1929. New York, which was limited to four singles Tuesday, has dropped four of five on the road, batting .191 in those games. "It's hard to win games when you get four hits and don't put any runs on the board," said Vernon Wells, who is 1 for 12 in his last three road games. Robinson Cano is 0 for 8 over the past two contests away from the Bronx, but is hitting .365 as a visitor on the season. Scoring may also be key with David Phelps (1-1, 5.56) scheduled to get a second turn in the rotation in place of Ivan Nova, who is on the disabled list with right triceps inflammation. Phelps' first start resulted in a 5-4 win over Houston last Wednesday, but he wasted a four-run lead by surrendering that many in the top of fourth before leaving two outs in the sixth and the score tied. He also surrendered eight hits while plunking two batters. "I know he expected more of himself but I was pretty pleased," manager Joe Girardi said. Phelps has surrendered five runs - three earned - with five strikeouts in four innings of relief over two interleague appearances.   ----end13Y05M. Soaring Sharks Jump To 3-0 Series Lead

NFL Sports news date: 2013-05-05,   SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks have never swept an opponent in the Stanley Cup playoffs. On Tuesday night, they will have that opportunity. Joe Pavelsi and Logan Couture scored two goals each, and Patrick Marleau added his third in three games as the Sharks put the Vancouver Canucks on the brink of elimination with a 5-2 win Sunday night. San Jose, which blitzed the visitors with three goals in a 2:27 span of the early third period, took a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference quarterfinal series. Game 4 of the best-of-seven set is Tuesday, and the Sharks will be looking to move into second round for the first time in three postseasons. "I'll remind them in the morning that the last time we were in this position it took us seven games," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said, referring to beating Detroit two years ago in seven games after jumping to a 3-0 series lead. "There's a lot of hockey left in this series." Couture added, "They're going to bring everything they have; their season is on the line. We expect that, and we'll be prepared for that." The Sharks put Game 3 away with an early third-period explosion. At 1:40 of the final period, Couture scored on an innocent looking wrist shot from the left boards that caught Vancouver goalie Cory Schneider deep in his net and close to the near post. The goal put San Jose ahead 3-1. Nine seconds later, the Sharks struck again. Marleau beat Schneider between the pads after cutting to the slot and shooting off-balance. Henrik Sedin high-sticked Couture in the faceoff circle, and Couture made the Canucks pay with a power-play goal just 21 seconds into the 5-on-4. The Sharks converted three of their first five power-play opportunities. Couture's second goal of the game, at 4:07, chased Schneider in favor of Roberto Luongo, who started and lost the first two games of the series in Vancouver. Couture added two assists for a four-point night. "Going into the third they had a power play we had to kill. We were almost there, and I'm not happy how we reacted after that," Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault said. Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis scored at 13:12 of the third period. The teams traded second-period goals to allow the hosts to take a 2-1 lead into the third period. "It was a pretty even game again early," McLellan said. "Probably the difference later was being on the power play for almost 13 minutes. They're taxing minutes when you're on the penalty kill. "We punished them on the power play, so that's probably the difference that got us going." Pavelski's second goal of the game came 7:20 into the middle session. Defenseman Scott Hannan's hard dump caromed behind the net to Tommy Wingels on the right boards. The forward sent a drive that Pavelski redirected through the pads of Schneider after beating defenseman Kevin Bieksa to the goal crease. "We scored on a few shots maybe you don't always, but we got traffic (in front of the goal) and were in the right positions," Pavelski said. Vancouver broke through just past the midway point as the Sedin twins finally produced. The Canucks capped a 2-on-2 rush as Alex Burrows chipped Henrik Sedin's pass between the circles over Sharks goalie Antti Niemi, who was late moving laterally at 11:07. The Sharks scored the only goal of the first period, converting on a 5-on-3 power play late in the period. With Canucks forward Dale Weise off for roughing Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Hamhuis compounded Vancouver's short-handed problem by slashing Joe Thornton 24 seconds into the first minor. It took the Sharks time to get organized with entry into the zone, but once set up, a tic-tac-toe passing play was capped by Pavelski at 14:08 just to the right of Schneider. Niemi finished with 28 saves. Schneider stopped 23 of the 28 shots he faced, while Luongo made 10 saves without allowing a goal. "I would say it's tougher to score in the playoffs, but I believe we have the skill to score the right amount of goals," Vigneault said. "Obviously we didn't prove it tonight, or prove it in the two games prior to that." NOTES: Schneider appeared for the first time in the series. He also missed the final two games of the regular season with an undisclosed injury. Before the injury, Schneider was 11-4-1, allowed more than two goals just three times and recorded four shutouts in a 16-game span. ... Veteran Scott Gomez made his series debut for the Sharks, opening as the center on the team's fourth line. Gomez was appearing in his 141st career playoff game. ... With the return of one injured player apiece, the Sharks and Canucks each still have two players out. San Jose is missing forward Martin Havlat (groin) and defenseman Jason Demers (sprained ankle). Vancouver's forward David Booth (left ankle) and defenseman Chris Tanev (leg) are also sidelined The return date for all four is indefinite. ... Forward Tim Kennedy and rookie defenseman Matt Tennyson were San Jose's healthy scratches. ... Tom Sestito replaced Andrew Ebbett at left wing on Vancouver's fourth line.   ----end13Y05M. The Parrot And The Plumber

A plumber promised old Miss Johnson he would be at her apartment by 11am the next day. When he had not arrived at 11:15 she locked up her apartment and went about her shopping.   The plumber arrived at 11:30 and knocked on the door. Although Miss Johnson was gone, her parrot called out, "Who is it?" and the plumber said, "It's the plumber." When noone came to the door the plumber knocked again. Again the parrot called out, "Who is it?" Thinking Miss Johnson may be hard of hearing the plumber raised his voice and shouted, "It's the plumber!" This routine continued for some time.   Eventually Miss Johnson returned to her apartment with her bag of groceries and found the plumber dead at her door. As she unlocked the door and let herself into the apartment she exclaimed, "Now I wonder who that is?!" to which the bird promptly replied, "It's the *#@ PLUMBER!!!!!"

Nothingness

An interesting concept (philosophy) that I've been thinking and reading about recently is nihilism. It presents a pretty cynical view at times but does raise many valid points about this world. We all "exist" in this world. Yet... for what reason? Theists attribute our existence to a higher 'God' and thus our purpose is to please this said 'higher' entity. Atheists, on the other hand, say "this is bullshit" there is no 'God', we just simply exist for whatever reason (personal, spiritual, or whatever). It's interesting, yet saddening, to watch humans waste their time over figuring out whether God exists or not. I mean, I'm all for figuring out whether such an entity can 'scientifically' exist but I don't see any value in participating in such a fight that cannot be won, that does not need to be won.   Going back to the point: When you map value to an entity, do you invest so much time in a single value? Do you grant it and invest into the multiple values? or do you even try granting any value to you?   Take the term "cup", we could typically map the value of it is a 'cylindrical' object that can contain liquids; but wait... the cup has other purposes. You can use it as a carrier for pencils, pens and other things.   So the question becomes... what is a cup? We are all taught to map values to an object. We're all told these values already exist for an object. Some aren't even correct. However, we all seem to hold onto that value so much that we lose the sight of it's just a term to describe matter. A cup can be made of paper, which at the end of the day gets decomposed or burnt. Consider it made of metal, when it is recycled, it's melted down into something else...   What value do you map to your everyday objects? Do you attribute so much worth in this matter that will just go away. Do you know where value came from? Nothingness. Without nothingness, we cannot acknowledge the existence of somethingness.   When we map a value to something, we also implicitly add negative value onto it. Think about it... let's take an example: 'water' . I'm not talking about the term 'water'. Let's talk about the substance in nature we map the value of 'water' to. Did you know that water itself does not conduct electricity? So as we learn, we map the value '~Conduct(Electricity)' to 'water'. We're the ones attributing this based on observation the value of what water brings in the nature of electrical conductivity. Interestingly enough, when you map that value, you also forget that you're also saying... ~water -> conduct(Electricity). since we add the value of non-conductivity to 'water', something that is not water may conduct electricity. Does it mean that everything that is not water conducts electricity? We pass value to the negative value of it. Of course not, rubber is an insulator and doesn't allow electricity to travel through. However the fact stands that when you claim a positive of something... there will ALWAYS be an opposite truth to it.   So bring this back to the idea of nothingness and somethingness, does it really matter that somethingness exists or nothingness exists? When at the end of the day, we humans map values (some that don't make sense) to a material object and yet we hold onto the values and not the object itself.   We live in a world that cares about the value of something and not the something itself. Interestingly enough we also care about the value of its opposite value more, yet the nothingness doesn't matter as much. We thrive to be the best even though we may not be. And when we're not, we're sad.   So what if we're not the best, what VALUE does that bring to yourself? Do you care about the value of feeling not the best more.. or about the fact that you may not be the best? In any case, what matter does it bring to you? Does it bother you... that you cannot be the best? I'm sure that there will be plenty of people who will be better than you. so what? What value are you bringing into your daily life by harbouring this feelings of incongruency when it is nothingness.   When you acknowledge that these are just values and not really the object itself, you acknowledge that it's just a feeling, just a manifestation of your ownself. Feelings are temporal. They come and go. They are unpleasant or pleasant. Feelings manifest from the inside out.   When you submit that nothingness spawned it, why would you have to worry? Worrying is just a manifestation from nothing. Nothing is what brings you to acknowledge that something exists and vice versa, something is what brings you to acknowledge nothing exists.   Song =3

Halloween story I know its late

During halloween night me and my friends were going trick or treating and I was trying to ask out one of her friends (who has a nice rack) so the whole night my friends helped me with her but she was on her period so she was bitchy the whole night. So after we went trick or treating we had to walk to her aunt's house because they were celebrating her cousins 18 birthday. So we were outside talking I was about to ask her out then there were these naked dudes running around her neighborhood butt naked. Then her dad came out (her parents are strict) so he was standing there holding his beer looking at me and it felt awkward so I just left. I was pissed because I didnt get to ask her out.     P.S. I asked her out the next day at school and she said yes.
