relavis
If you live in the US, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will soon be allowed to sell your information - without your consent. And there's nothing we can do about it, except try to protect yourself. (source) This thread is about three things; Privacy, Protection, and Anonymity. Firstly, use a VPN. Read about how ISPs handle VPN data here: (psst... spoilers are broken.) I personally suggest TunnelBear, they give you a free 500 MB of VPN data and if you tweet them then you get another gig free. They are pretty cool. Another good suggestion is Dashlane. It can store your passwords with a Master Password and also generate extremely complex passwords for you to use. Most features are free but there's a few cooler things if you subscribe. I also have a few suggestions for Chrome extensions that you should absolutely install. Noiszy - You can run it whenever you're not using the VPN, and it'll fill your ISP logs with false history. This will cause your ISP logs to be basically useless to whomever your ISP sells them to. uBlock Origin - It is an efficient ad blocker and leaves a smaller footprint on your computer. HTTPS Everywhere - Ensures that you are using HTTPS on all websites that support it. Flashcontrol - Allows you to control what Flash applications are allowed to run. GIF of the "Attach Files" portion below where you submit: Privacy Badger - Gives you the ability to block tracking domains or just disable cookies. It's pretty useful for tracking. User Agent Switcher - Allows you to spoof what browser and OS you are using. I'd appreciate it if you guys could give your opinions on the topic and share some of your ideas/applications you use to protect your privacy. Thanks! SatoshiAaron
I believe that it is a law that has been passed that allows ISP's to monitor traffic and get reports on all outgoing and incoming traffic rather than ISP's being legally obligated to, although a few people did report it is the opposite. For the fact it is only a law... It is only permitted in the places the law has been passed in which I believe is just the US altogether in general. We have had issues related to this in the UK for quite some time. ISP's were snooping without permission and it was debated whether it was a violation of terms or allowed for their safety and to uphold the law, etc as the law on it wasn't exactly clear. The law was changed over here some time ago but I think it is only in some cases they can check our traffic and are allowed to monitor traffic for certain sites only.
